Neil C. Boland, MD, FACOG

Neil C. Boland, MD, FACOG Originally a Georgia native, Dr. Boland has practiced Ob/Gyn on the Treasure Coast of Florida since 1981. As valedictorian of his high school class, he completed his undergraduate studies at the Florida State University, Magna Cum Laude, with Honors in Biology and Chemistry in 1973, with his honors thesis in Steroid Biochemistry.

As a recipient of the coveted Robert Woods Johnson Foundation Scholarship, he received his M.D. degree from Emory University School of Medicine in Atlanta, Georgia in 1977. He performed two summers of graduate school research in human estrogen metabolism, and spent an externship at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School, Department of OB/GYN, Parkland Memorial Hospital, Dallas, Texas in 1976.

Subsequently, he did his four year Internship and Residency at the Emory University Affiliated Hospitals in Atlanta, where he served as Chief Administrative Resident and Faculty Instructor in 1981. This was the second largest OB/GYN residency program in the United States at that time. He was the first researcher ever to prove nicotine crosses the placental membrane into the developing fetus, with prize-winning results and publications.

In 1981, Dr. Boland moved to Stuart, Florida, and its then embryonic suburb of Port St. Lucie to join the first group of board certified OB/GYN specialists here. He became board certified in obstetrics and gynecology in 1983, and voluntarily re-certified by the same board in 1994, as well as a Fellow of the College. He helped found the medical staff of Port St. Lucie Hospital in 1983, and went ton to serve two chairmanships of the Department of OB/GYN at Martin Memorial Hospital in Stuart, listed as one of the top 100 hospitals in America. He now serves as Clinical Director and Quality Assurance Chairman Of Women's Health Specialists, a group of ten OB/GYNs with three offices.

Dr. Boland has been involved as an Obstetrical Consultant to NASA in Cape Canaveral and has helped to train flight surgeons directing the space shuttle flights. He has participated in numerous clinical research projects over the last 15 years, especially related to the development of new drugs for osteoporosis, endometriosis and breast cancer.

He is a noted lecturer in South Florida for several pharmaceutical companies and enjoys doing so. Part of his time is also spent as a medico-legal defense consultant for area law firms, and he is a member of numerous local and national professional societies. Dr. Boland was also recently named by Castle-Connelly of New York as "One of The Best Doctors in Florida: 2000", and was recently named to the Board of Directors of the Martin County American Cancer Society, 2001.

Dr. Boland's clinical interests include high-risk obstetrics, gynecologic oncology, menopausal medicine, pelvic relaxation surgery/urinary incontinence, and endometriosis. Having a reputation for attention to detail, he enjoys listening to his patients, always striving for individualized plan of care for each.

His hobbies include strength sailing, strength conditioning, the St. Lucie River initiative, and he plays tenor sax in his own band "The Jazzernauts."
