Advanced Services
Minimally Invasive Robotic-Assisted Hysterectomy
One of the most advanced procedures available, the da Vinci Robotic hysterectomy procedure provides patients a safe, minimally invasive treatment option. This revolutionary technology uses a robot to precisely mimic a surgeon’s motions when performing the surgery in real time.
3D Digital Mammography Screening
Women’s Health Specialist (WHS) is excited to offer Hologic 3D Mammography for breast cancer screening. 3D mammography produces a three-dimensional view of the breast tissue that helps radiologists identify and characterize individual breast structures without the confusion of overlapping tissue.
Bladder Control Therapy
Medtronic Bladder Control Therapy modulates the sacral nerves with mild electrical pulses. This helps the brain and the nerves to communicate so the bladder and related muscles can function properly.
Medtronic Bladder Control Therapy may help you resume normal activities and help you avoid frustrating or embarrassing experiences associated with overactive bladder.
Birth Control Without a Monthly Pill
An intrauterine device (IUD) is a little, t-shaped piece of plastic inserted into the uterus to provide birth control. The 3 types of IUDs that use the hormone progestin include Mirena, Skyla, and Liletta. Skyla is the smallest of the progestin IUDs.
Tissue Removal Simplified
First and foremost, the procedure is done on an outpatient basis. The entire procedure can take about 30 minutes. After administering an anesthetic, your doctor inserts an instrument—the MyoSure hysteroscope—through your vagina, allowing him or her to see inside your uterus to locate the abnormal tissue.
It’s simple, effective and quick. And once the tissue is removed, your period may go back to normal!
Endometrial ablation is an outpatient surgery to treat heavy prolonged menstruation. This is usually a therapy for women who have failed hormonal therapy or are not a candidate for such. There are varying techniques and devices but basically the surgery destroys the lining of the uterus so that future menstruation lessons on cases all together. It is not a treatment for pain and not an approved form of birth control. This cannot be done on someone during childbearing potential. The procedures are short 10 to 20 minutes minimally invasive with minimal pain and low-risk. They are typically done with a general anesthesia in an outpatient setting.
Interstim is an advanced and highly effective treatment for overactive bladder. People with this condition suffer from urinary urgency frequency incontinence and having to urinate at night. This procedure is done in two phases. The first comma a test phase is done in the office. There is no special testing ahead of time. Well you are awake the doctor places a tiny wire near the tailbone to stimulate the bladder nerve under local anesthesia and with x-ray guidance. It is virtually risk-free and involves minimal discomfort associated with the local anesthetics injection.
Assuming a successful test the doctor will provide a permanent implant which is the same procedure repeated with the addition of implanting a stimulator (pacemaker like device) for permanent bladder control. This procedure is also an excellent treatment for incontinence.
Interstitial cystitis is a chronic bladder condition causing bladder pain and pressure and occasionally pelvic pain. The pain May range from mild to severe and militating. Accompanying symptoms may include urinary frequency and urgency, painful urination and pain with intercourse. The symptoms are often confused with bladder infections, endometriosis, ovarian cyst and pelvic infections. The disease is felt to arise from a defect in the lining of the bladder. There are several effective treatment options for interstitial cystitis including dietary restrictions, oral meds and in office bladder rinses.
If you have any of the following symptoms you might have Interstitial cystitis:
- Do you have pain or pressure in the lower abdomen?
- Do you urinate frequently?
- Do you have a constant urge to urinate?
- Do certain foods or beverages aggravate your symptoms?
- Do you have pain with intercourse?
Urinary incontinence is the involuntary loss of bladder control. It is an extremely common problem and the incidences increases with Advanced aging. Incontinence is typically from stress when one coughs or sneezes, or from a sudden urge that can’t be controlled.
Stress incontinence is a mechanical failure of the urethra to stay closed with stress ( running, walking, cough, laugh, sneeze), it is typically related to some degree of urinal prolapse as a result of childbirth. The treatment is usually surgical in the form of a sub urethral sling. The surgery is fast, minimally invasive and outpatient.
Urge incontinence is felt to arise from overactive of the bladder nerves. This causes the muscle around the bladder to constantly contract leading to symptoms of urgency, frequency, getting up at night and leaking without stress.
Urge incontinence is more difficult to treat than stress incontinence. Treatment begins with voiding schedules and fluid restrictions. Behavior modification or physical therapy have been employed as treatment modalities. Medication are commonly used to relax and overactive bladder. Neuromodulation of the bladder nerve is a very effective therapy. This could involve an acupuncture office treatment, or an outpatient pacemaker to regulate the bladder nerves. Many people suffer from birth causes of incontinence. WHS offers a full complement of diagnosis and treatment services for urinary incontinence. If you are lifestyle is hampered by urinary incontinence call for an appointment.
